Johnny was born on Halloween in 1975. His early years were spent in Charleston, South Carolina with his mom. When he grew older, he moved to Dallas, Texas with his dad (parents are divorced). At age 15/16 in 1991, he won the 1st Young and Modern Man Contest. 3 years later, he moved to Los Angeles with his mother and, at the age of 18, started his acting career with a guest appearance on "Party of Five" (1994) in 1994. His debut in movies was with Bye Bye Love (1995) in 1995. He quit acting after his 1st couple of movies, but then made a comeback in 1997's The Rainmaker (1997).
Recent years have seen a surge in Johnny's popularity after appearing on several episodes of CSI: Miami as a popular fan favorite, Detective Jake Berkeley. He then went on to grab some pivotal roles in the award winning independent films, The Things We Carry and Reach for Me before taking the lead as a washed up porn star trying to work his way back into society in a Stokes McIntyre feature film, Valley of the Sun.
Johnny's latest project is as "Blackout" in Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor's cult comic classic, Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance, where he co-stars with Nicolas Cage.
